Penelope Castro Fernandez
Irish Solicitor and a Spanish-Qualified Lawyer
Penelope joined the firms Trade Mark department in 2007 having previously worked with one of Ireland’s largest firms of solicitors. Before this she held different positions as the in-house legal advisor for a number of Irish companies involved in legal services and immigration work. While working in Spain, she also has had experience in domestic and international litigation.
Penelope holds the rare distinction of being both a Spanish-qualified lawyer with an LLM in European Law and a qualified solicitor in Ireland, giving her special insights into the workings of two separate European legal systems. Being a native Spanish speaker also gives her the advantage of being able to communicate with the Community Trade Mark Office (OHIM), located in Alicante, Spain, in her first language. She has also recently become a member of the Irish Association of European Lawyers.
In addition to her impressive list of academic qualifications, Penelope was also chosen to deliver lectures on European Law at University College Dublin, and she also provides occasional consultancy to Irish Investment companies regarding Spanish Property Law.
Penelope has been settled in Ireland for over 7 years now and during her spare time she enjoys going to the gym, socialising and keeping up to date with European current affairs.
