Rory Litton

Rory is our newest Partner having joined the practice in 2007. Before that he worked for 7 years at the European Patent Office. There he was initially employed as a Search Examiner, where he spent three years searching patent specifications under the EPC and PCT, and was involved in the classification and filing of documents at the EPO.

Subsequently he was promoted to perform the duties of both Search and Substantive Examiner. In his position of B.E.S.T. Examiner (Bringing Examination and Search Together) he was also involved in the post search process which included both written and oral proceedings aimed towards bringing applications to grant. His specialisation was in the area of telecommunications and in particular digital modulation techniques, equalisation techniques, error detection and correction techniques and decoding techniques . This also gave him considerable exposure to the examination of software patents and business method patents at the European Patent Office.

With his direct experience of the European Patent Office, Rory is thus in an excellent position to advise our clients on the most efficient and cost effective prosecution strategies when seeking registration at the EPO.

Qualifications: B.Eng. from University College Dublin; Irish Patent Attorney; European Patent Attorney; European and Irish Trade Mark Attorney; Community Design Attorney.
